New discover at Sakkara

The biggest archaeological discovery in 2020 announced on 14 November

This weekend(14 November), Egypt announced the discovery of 100 human sealed coffins and 40 statues from three different shafts at Sakkara. The coffins are of senior statesman and priests from the 26th Dynasty. They were found inside new burial shafts that have not been open for 2500 years. Some wooden statues and coloured and gilded masks were also discovered and will all be transferred to the Grand Egyptian Museum(due to open in Summer 2021) .The majority of the coffins contain mummies and also 28 statuettes of Ptah-Soker, the main god of Saqqara Necropolis. The bronze statue of the god Nefertum was found lying next to these inlaid with red agate, turquoise, and lapis lazuli. It is 35 centimetres in height and has the name of its owner, BadiAmunis, engraved on its base.
