Responsible Tourism

Discover Egypt supports The Brooke; an international animal welfare organisation dedicated to improving the lives of working horses, donkeys and mules in the poorest parts of the world. They provide free veterinary treatment and community programmes in eleven countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America. These include Egypt, Jordan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Pakistan, India, Nicaragua, Ethiopia, Kenya, Senegal and Guatemala.

In 2012, they reached more than 1.1 million animals, benefiting more than six million of the world’s poorest people. The Brooke’s goal is to increase the number of working animals they help to two million a year by 2016.

For more information about the Brooke and how to get involved visit www.thebrooke.org

Discover Egypt only employs staff from the local community – On Discover Egypt’s Nile Cruises an integration policy is in place and all members of staff - from the captain to the laundry team – are introduced to clients at a welcome meeting. This ensures clients feel at ease as they see staff going about their duties throughout their stay.

Discover Egypt ensures that all uniforms are made locally generating income for the local community.

Discover Egypt operates a strict policy regarding littering the Nile – all of Discover Egypt’s Nile Cruise boats follow strict directives to ensure pollution is kept to a minimum.

Discover Egypt seeks to give clients a taste of real life in Egypt within their holiday experience – a popular excursion for clients on a Nile Cruise is a visit to a Nubian home. Clients are welcomed into a Nubian family home, offered a drink and an insight into how the family lives – an excellent example of social and cultural integration.
